Matenadaran, one of the oldest museums in Armenia, was founded in the 5th century. Here you will get acquainted with a wonderful collection of handwritings, manuscripts, printed books. Right at the entrance of the building tourists can see the monuments of Mesrop Mashtots, the creator of the Armenian alphabet and of other founders of the Armenian written tradition. The museum’s collection contains ancient manuscripts created in the 5th century. Here is an extensive collection of the first books printed in the country in Armenian, Greek, Latin, Russian and other languages.
Tours in Matenadaran are conducted in several languages, also in Russian.
