Shushi is a city with a special history. It is located in Nagorno-Karabakh and not once it was attacked by enemies. Numerous bastions, including the Shushi fortress, were built to protect the people from invaders.
Iranian Panah-Ali Khan founded the fort in the 18th century. Afterwards it was passed to the Armenian prince Melik-Shahnazaryan. During its existence, the construction made of limestone was repeatedly attacked. Anyhow, it has been perfectly preserved up to the present. The tourists are especially attracted by the cave system in the south of the bastion, which was actively used during defense.
During the tour in Karabakh, travelers can also visit the Unot gorge, numerous Armenian churches and other historical monuments located near the Shushi fortress.
