Bjni fortress

Bjni Fortress was founded in the 9th century

In the village of Bjni, located near the famous mineral resort, there is an ancient castle of the same name. It is located on a hilltop with panoramic views of the surroundings. Until now, only the fortress walls were well preserved here, all other buildings were almost completely destroyed. The foundation of the ancient church, laid in the 5th century, attracts a lot of attention.

The Bjni fortress was founded in the 9th century by the representatives of the famous Armenian dynasty Pahlavuni. For the bastion a particularly convenient place was chosen: from all the sides it is surrounded by rocks and it is almost impregnable. However, in the 11th  century, the Turkish mercenaries managed to take the fort and enslave the entire region. After that, the fortress was desolate and gained popularity as a sight.
